Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the purpose of this list? Aren't there already several sources of information about ARC-5 and related equipment?

A: There are indeed. When I became interested in ARC-5 equipment I found there were several mailing lists and newsgroups with information about surplus military electronic equipment. But I also discovered that ARC-5 postings were actually pretty few and far between. Considering the interest, I asked around and was surprised to find NO mailing list devoted exclusively to ARC-5/SCR-274N/ARA/ATA equipment. I had to read thousands of words each week before I came across just one item of interest. I have established this list as a focus for EVERYTHING ARC-5.

Q: What do you mean by "ARC-5" equipment?

A: For the purposes of this list, "ARC-5" refers to surplus military components from AN/ARC-5, SCR-274N, ARA, and ATA equipment. Included are transmitters, receivers, modulators, dynamotors, control units, test sets, cables, connectors, racks, shock mounts, splines, knobs, parts, tech manuals, books, general information, etc., etc.

Q: Is buying and selling permitted?

A: Sure. Non-commercial Buying, selling, trading, and want lists are all permitted and encouraged. Please include model, description, price, condition and location of all items offered for sale. If you can post a picture on a web site somewhere please do so and include the URL. Please do not attach pictures or any other type of files to messages sent to the list! If you have a good photograph of an item, but have no way of posting a picture yourself on a web site, you may contact me. I may be able to help.

Q: Do I have to be a subscriber to post to the list?

A: Yes.

Q: How do I post to the list?

A: Send an e-mail to: ARC5@QTH.NET

Q: Are there any types of postings that are not permitted?

A: Personal attacks and off-topic items (including virus warnings) are not welcome here. Please confine posts to text only (no HTML and no attachments). When you respond to a post please take a moment and consider whether you want to respond to the individual or the whole list. Please confine your posts to ARC-5 and related items. For example, posts for AN/GRC-, PRC-, SRC-, URC-, BC-610, ART-13, Rxx, Txx, etc. belong elsewhere.

Q: Are there any general administrative rules for the use of the list?

A: This list and many others hosted on QTH.NET are made possible through the generosity of Alan Waller, K3TKJ. Al has established a number general rules and guidelines that apply to all of the QTH.NET lists. Please take a moment and take a look at them at: http://www.qsl.net/aup.html and http://www.qth.net/miniaup.html
